v0.9.1 public release! (and the announcement of v0.11)

Hi folks!

In October we’ve reached an important milestone - we finished the third act of Luna’s nightly tavern adventures. We’ve done a lot of testing up to this moment to make sure every part, variable, question, and ending works properly and fixed some things thanks to your bug reports. To follow up, we released version 0.8.6 of the Electron client, which improves the gameplay experience of the offline version. But right after its release, we decided that we should work on the offline version more thoroughly.

Now playing on the Electron client will be even better! We’re updating it to version 0.9.1 (Download), which includes all content in public access right now and some new features and fixes. The major new feature is being able to choose between offline and online mode upon launch.

The offline version includes a local save slot that doesn’t require logging into Patreon, and paid features are much less noticeable or removed entirely. To get to the exciting parts quickly, you can now skip the intro and specific dialogue. And to make sure you don’t miss anything by skipping them, we’ve added notes about every question at the moment of picking a response.

We’re also working on version 0.11 simultaneously. This will be the first version where you can visit different places in the tavern. You will finally be able to see how the locations are going to look. There was a lot of discussion about the choice between a “normal” location view akin to backgrounds in visual novels and isometry, which is more prevalent in classic RPGs. After weighing all the pros, cons, and personal preferences we chose isometry. Though the game won’t have classic movement, with the character moving through a location, Luna will be present in every room and the player will be able to click on different objects and interact with the characters. In the future, we’d like to add a whole range of locations that stories, characters, and scenes can be tied to. For example, the second floor, the attic and the tavern’s roof, a dark basement with a (possible) secret entrance to the sewers, a bathroom and a shower (or sauna), the street outside the tavern and the stables. Right now, the bathroom looks like this.

Some of these locations will be available in Lina and Rylai’s story arc while others will appear later. We’ll work specifically on the interactive tavern, its content, and stories after the two sisters’ show, and for now, we’re thinking about when to give the player access to it. Currently, we’re leaning towards giving Luna the opportunity to “take a break” between questions and walk around different rooms. When the player wants to get back to the drinking game, they can talk to Owner to continue. This will allow to better tie Luna to the people surrounding her. She might have new reasons to lie and get caught by Mirana’s spell upon returning. Or someone from the public might interrupt the game due to a decision the player made in the tavern. It would give us a lot of freedom for small plot points like this, and it would be very exciting to add some.

Well, November will be devoted entirely to our work on the first part of the two mages’ show.  And that’s it for now! Subscribe, Luna will drink to your health!
